  1. Good to hear this, William! As you know, I have tried a thousand and one times to join the blog but to no avail. I hope it works from now on. I look forward to reading everyone's comments on the papers. Peace! Dr. Afolayan

  2. I am stunned that Title IX was only signed into law a mere 37 years ago! The article does not mention this, but it is common knowledge that African American men were allowed to vote (1850) before women won the right (1920) - 70 years seperates these two amendments! How long do you think before we recognize gay marriage? I hope it is not a half+ century! This is another example of a violation of civil rights that needs to be addressed. Let's collectively evolve already!

  3. Annonymous....
It is one thing to be granted rights....it is another thing for them to be instituted. Look at the 13-15th amendments... looked good on paper...not so good when you went to vote and were forced to take a literacy test, or you were run away from the polls due to threat of violence. There is a lot of ignorance in America....to evolve you have to accept..Religion does not allow for acceptance in America and unfortunately, that is what many people use to stop or inhibit change!

  4. I agree...religion does not allow for acceptance, but we need to move away from the mentality of "if you don't believe what I believe, then you're wrong". Change occurs in small steps toward the ultimate goal. Laws are the collective way to ensure rights. I agree with your point about the actual application - it is not always easy - but it is another step on the path to the evolution of the collective consciuosness. Generations from now will wonder why we were so narrow minded in our thinking as to deny rights to specific groups in society - just like some find it shameful that black men or women once had to fight for their right to vote.

I read an article recently about white people supporting African Americans in the civil rights movement, now heterosexuals need to support homosexuals in their effort to have gay marriage recognized. I think this is true. To forward acceptance, you must call out intolerence when you witness it. If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem.

  5. There have always been progressive people within the plight of groups that have been suppressed. To reach a collective consciousness we have to first learn to accept all people into the collective. "We are Borg, Resistance is futile"

Narrow mindedness has two central points-- fear of losing control (not being privileged) or finding out that they have more in common with those they persecute then they would like to believe.

The biggest thing that people really need to understand is that when it comes to gays, lesbians, transgendered, and bisexuals....judge them as people and not as sexual acts. So many people want to judge and deny them things base on sexual orientation...not on humanistic attributes and that truly is wrong
